Professorial Fellow in Mathematics Ulrike Tillmann has been appointed as Chair of the Royal Society Education Committee; she will hold the post until 2025.

It is with great sadness that the College has learned of the death of Dr Prosser Gifford, alumnus, Bodley Fellow, and former President of the Merton College Charitable Corporation (MC3).

Professor Madhavi Krishnan, Tutor in Physical Chemistry, has been awarded this year's Corday-Morgan Prize by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). The prize is awarded annually "for the most meritorious contributions to chemistry."

Now in its fifth year, the competition saw another strong field, with the judges choosing joint winners for the first-year prize.

Black Writing Matters, started by Malak Khalil and Apollo Lalouschek (both 2016), aims to encourage thinking and learning about the legacies of prejudice faced by black communities and people of colour around the world, while celebrating the brilliant work of black writers.

It is with great sadness that the College has learned of the death of Ian Taylor (1975), alumnus and Wyliot Fellow.
