Honorary Fellow Guy Weston knighted in New Year Honours List

Guy Weston (1978), Honorary Fellow of Merton College and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Garfield Weston Foundation, has been knighted in the New Year Honours for services to philanthropy and charity.

After taking his degree in Law at Merton, Guy read for the Bar before deciding to complete an MBA at INSEAD. Following this, he took up a career in investment banking, before moving to become Managing Director of Jacksons of Piccadilly and The Ryvita Company at Associated British Foods plc from 1990 until 2000.

Sir Guy has been a trustee at the Garfield Weston Foundation for 35 years and its chairman for 20. His leadership has been critical to the strategic direction of the Foundation, which has become the largest family grant-making charity in the UK and has enabled other British charities, large and small, to develop strategies and launch major appeals.

The award of a knighthood recognises the effort, knowledge and guidance Guy has given both to the Foundation itself and to the charities it has supported.

We may have missed other Mertonians recognised in the New Year Honours: please do get in touch with development@merton.ox.ac.uk to let us know if this is the case.
