Merton College was founded by Walter de Merton in 1264. Worship has been offered in the College Chapel for over seven hundred years. Today the Chapel is home to a lively and diverse Christian community which continues this faithful offering of worship with daily services during term. Visitors are welcome to join members of the College at all our services.
The Chapel is part of the Church of England, within the worldwide Anglican Communion, and the Archbishop of Canterbury is the College’s Visitor. All those who are communicant members of their own church are welcome to receive Holy Communion with us.
The College Choir sings on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Merton College Girls’ Choir sings on Wednesdays, their music enriching our worship. Members of College and Friends of the Choir can purchase the Choir’s recordings from the Verger. Copies are also available from the Porters’ Lodge.
For full details of services and the termly list, please download the Chapel Termcard and Services booklet.
For information on services outside termtime, please see our list of special services and concerts.
Our collections this term will be donated to the Oxford Winter Night Shelter, the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, and the Oxford Parent Infant Project. Our collections during Trinity term were donated to Christian Aid.
