Alumni Information

The Development Office is here to help you maintain a life-long relationship with Merton. We run a full and varied events programme in the UK and overseas, and also produce a range of alumni publications. Information regarding other benefits and services available to our alumni are listed below.

The Oxford Alumni Card

Your alumni card gives you access a wide range of offers in Oxford. Please log in to the Oxford Alumni Website to request an Alumni Card.

The Merton Society

All Mertonians automatically become life members of The Merton Society on matriculation. The Society runs an events programme in conjunction with the Development Office, giving Old Members the opportunity to keep in touch with the College and with each other. Activities range from drinks parties and dinners to lectures and sports (spectating and participating).

We also run special alumni network events and organise alumni reunions, including Gaudies and '50 Years On' Lunches for each year group.

Career Advice

Career advice and guidance is available to all Merton Alumni via the University Career Service. Visit them in person or online for advice and information on a full range of career options (including postgraduate study), help getting started, application or interview advice or to search job vacancies. Please feel free to drop in and use its Resource Centre, or for a 15-minute appointment with the Duty Adviser. If you would like to make a longer appointment with a Careers Adviser, or to find out more information about the Careers Service, please call (+44) 1865 274646.

Stay in touch

Merton College's Development Office facilitates a Year Representatives scheme to help old members keep in touch with each other, and also sends out various alumni publications, to keep you up to date with College news.

You can update your contact details and personalise your mailing preferences online. Alternatively, please email the Development Office.

Coming back to Merton

Mertonians wanting to return to Merton should visit our special Coming back to College webpage.

Getting married at Merton

Each year many of our alumni marry in the College Chapel. Those wishing to explore the possibility of being married in the Chapel should, in the first instance, contact the Chaplain, by emailing The Revd Canon Dr Simon Jones or calling (+44) 1865 276365. The College also offers services after civil marriages and civil partnerships. For further information, contact the Chaplain.

Following a service or ceremony at Merton or elsewhere, it is sometimes possible for couples to have a reception in College. To find out more, contact the Events team.

The Merton College Compassionate Fund

The Merton College Compassionate Fund exists to assist members of the College and their dependents who find themselves in financial difficulty. Applications are warmly welcomed from Mertonians at times of unforeseen financial hardship (which may be the result of unemployment, illness, bereavement, or other changes in personal circumstances). Grants do not normally exceed £3,000.

Applications are considered by the trustees of the Compassionate Fund: the Warden, the President and Chair of the Merton Society, Professor Jenny Payne and the Chaplain. For further information, please contact the Chaplain by emailing The Revd Canon Dr Simon Jones.
