Life at Merton: College Facilities in Oxford

All students at Merton enjoy:

  • Two libraries for the use of College members only - one of which includes the oldest continuously functioning library for university academics and students in the world!
  • Free internet access in all student rooms, as well as computer rooms with free printing and cheap photocopying, available 24 hours a day

  • Access to a Games Room, complete with a free pool table, table football, darts and games machines

  • The Real Tennis Court in Merton Street which can be used by the College Real Tennis Club
  • Five acoustically-designed music practice rooms, each equipped with a piano

  • Multi-Faith Prayer Room (next to the Music Practice Rooms in St Albans 4).  All members of the community are welcome to use the room, which has facilities for ablutions before prayer.  It can be accessed using the College fob, or with a fob from the Porters’ Lodge.
  • An approachable welfare team including Welfare Reps from the student body as well as the Chaplain, College Nurse, Junior Deans for Welfare and University support services
  • Venues which can be booked without charge by students for club or society events and performances or recitals

Common Rooms

  • As an undergraduate you will have access to the Junior Common Room (JCR), where you can relax on the sofas, read the papers or play table tennis
  • As a graduate student you can use the historic Middle Common Room (MCR), with its comfortable seating, kitchen, games and selection of newspapers and magazines
