Merton College Mentoring
The Merton Society Council, working with the Development Office, has developed Merton College Mentoring (MCM) - a bespoke mentoring programme created for and by Mertonians. Currently open to recent undergraduate leavers, the intention is to gradually expand the programme so that, in time, any Merton graduate will be able to ask for a mentor drawn from the Merton community.
Through facilitating confidential, one-to-one sessions between mentors and mentees, MCM aims to help mentees with their personal and professional development. The meetings are a safe space for the mentee to discuss matters of interest or concern with their mentor.
MCM grew out of a pilot scheme conducted in 2022-23 for recent Merton undergraduate leavers, many still experiencing the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working with the College, the Merton Society identified suitable mentors from the College’s alumni and fellowship body. The feedback received following the pilot scheme was overwhelmingly positive, and MCM is now a permanent feature of the Merton Society's work.
Any Mertonian, or Fellow of Merton, is most welcome to become a mentor. The programme's success depends on being able to offer a wide range of mentors to support our prospective mentees, so please do register here if you are interested in being involved.
Mertonians eligible to apply as mentees will be invited to the programme via email, so please do keep us updated with your contact details. You are warmly encouraged to sign up, when your time comes, if you feel that you would benefit from the mentoring discussions.
All MCM participants are given training and commit to our Code of Conduct. They will be supported throughout the programme by the Development Office.
Mertonians with any questions or comments are invited to please get in touch with us.
