Ten Merton history finalists and their tutors have just returned from their annual reading party in Cornwall.

It was with sadness that the College learned of the death of Professor John Jones, the 38th Oxford University Professor of Poetry, earlier in the year.

Final year Medicine graduate student Nicholas Black has been awarded the Meakins McClaran Prize.

Ewan White's paper covering hot topics such as UK sovereignty, the West Lothian question, and the Human Rights Act was awarded this year's Slaughter and May Prize in Constitutional Law - the third year in a row that a Merton Law undergraduate has won a prize.

Thursday 3 March saw the very well attended book launch of Volume I of the series Studies in the Contract Laws of Asia co-edited by Merton's Professor Mindy Chen-Wishart.

Merton's Professorial Fellow in Mathematics Sir Andrew Wiles FRS has been awarded the 2016 Abel Prize by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, "for his stunning proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem by way of the modularity conjecture for semistable elliptic curves, opening a new era in number theory."

The college is establishing a Girls' Choir – enabling girls from the city and the surrounding area to take part in our musical tradition.
