The Warden receives Freedom of the City of London

Friday 2 December: Yesterday, the Warden, Sir Martin Taylor FRS, was presented with the Freedom of the City of London in a ceremony at the Guildhall conducted by the Clerk of the Chamberlain’s Court, Mr Murray Craig.

Sir Martin read the ‘Declaration of a Freeman’ and signed the Freeman’s Declaration Book, before being presented with the Copy of the Freedom—a parchment document inscribed by a calligrapher—together with a copy of the ‘Rules for the Conduct of Life’ which date from the mid-eighteenth century.

Famous Honorary Freemen of the past include Lord Nelson, Sir Winston Churchill, and Nelson Mandela, and more recent recipients include Dame Judi Dench, Morgan Freeman, and Mary Berry.
