Archbishop of Canterbury to visit Merton College
The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby will preach at Choral Evensong in the Chapel on Sunday 27 January. This will be Archbishop Justin’s first visit to the College since he assumed office in 2013.

A celebration of the life of the Mertonian and Honorary Fellow took place last month at the Sheldonian Theatre, jointly hosted by the University and the City of Oxford.

Summer project success for Merton students
Every year the College offers funding to support undergraduates who wish to undertake a research project during the Long Vacation. The scheme is competitive and students must submit a research proposal to the Warden and Tutors’ Committee, who judge the applications.

The Oxford Handbook of English Law and Literature, 1500-1700
, edited by Lorna Hutson, Merton Professor of English Literature, has been selected as the best reference book published last year in the field of early modern studies.

Merton graduate student wins Naomi Schor Memorial Award
Doctoral student Helen Craske was named as joint winner of the prize by the international scholarly society, the Nineteenth-Century French Studies Association, at its annual conference held in California at the end of October.

New DPhil scholarship established in memory of Mertonian James Upcher (2006)
Graduate student Tsvetelina van Benthem is the first recipient of the scholarship, established thanks to the generosity of London-based public international law firm Fietta LLP where James was a consultant.
