Professor Rawson, who served as Warden from 1994 until 2010, has been recognised for her 'trail-blazing' scholarship and her 'gift and mastery' in reading Chinese civilisation through art and artefacts.

Tutor in Physics at Merton, and Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford, Alex has been appointed Simons Investigator in Astrophysics by The Simons Foundation, New York.

Supernumerary Fellow Dr Helen Barron and Dr Archie Bott (2019) are among the five Oxford researchers who will benefit from funding to tackle major global issues and to commercialise their innovations in the UK.

The Merton Professor of Mathematical Logic has been announced as joint winner of the 2022 Prize in Mathematical Sciences for his "remarkable contributions to discrete mathematics and model theory with interaction notably with algebraic geometry, topology and computer sciences".

Merton's Tutor in Organic Chemistry has been elected as an International Honorary Member, a singular distinction that recognises people from every discipline and profession who are making extraordinary contributions to society.

The title was conferred by Merton’s Governing Body at the end of Hilary term, following the successful completion of an appeal to endow permanently one of our teaching posts in Physics.

The Warden has been nominated as the next Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University; following approval from Congregation, she will succeed Professor Louise Richardson in 2023.
