The Halsbury Society, the law society of Merton College, was delighted to welcome Mertonian Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe (1988), who gave a talk entitled 'The Challenges of Policing London'. There was an opportunity at the end of the talk to ask Sir Bernard questions.

Sir Bernard set out his vision of Total Policing: the challenges of policing in times of financial austerity, the challenge of change and restructuring of the Metropolitan Police Service, including making the service more representative of London's diverse communities, the challenge of accountability and the challenges of improving public confidence and satisfaction.

Sir Bernard's Lecture was the highlight of the Halsbury Society’s calendar in Merton College’s 750th Year.
