Véronique Gouverneur to give 2019 Prelog Lecture

Professor Véronique Gouverneur, Tutor in Organic Chemistry at Merton, has been awarded the 2019 Prelog Medal of the Laboratorium für Organische Chemie at ETH Zürich, and will give the Prelog Lecture tomorrow, Monday 7 October.

The Laboratorium für Organische Chemie (Laboratory of Organic Chemistry, or LOC) made the award in recognition of "her exceptionally creative and ambitious work across multiple disciplines of synthetic organic chemistry [which] exemplifies the spirit of passion, curiosity, and rigour of the distinguished list of previous awardees."

The Prelog Lecture was established in 1986, in order to honour Professor Vladimir Prelog for his extraordinary merits for science and industry in Switzerland; the first Prelog Lecture was held, and the first Prelog Medal awarded, in September that year.

Vladimir Prelog was the joint winner of the 1975 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for his research into the stereochemistry of organic molecules and reactions.
