Jennifer Payne appointed to European Securities & Markets Authority stakeholder group

Jennifer Payne, Professor of Corporate Finance Law, has been appointed as a member of the Securities and Markets Stakeholders Group (SMSG) by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA)'s Board of Supervisors. Professor Payne, one of seven academics elected to the new group, was made a member of ESMA's Corporate Finance Standing Committee Consultative Working Group last December. She took up her latest appointment at the start of the month, and will serve as an SMSG member until the end of December 2018.

The SMSG is composed of 30 individuals drawn from across 13 Member States and representing ESMA’s key stakeholder constituencies – financial market participants, employee representatives, consumer representatives, users of financial services, SMEs, and academics. The group meets quarterly at ESMA’s Paris offices, and twice a year with their Board of Supervisors. They help to facilitate consultation between ESMA, its Board of Supervisors and stakeholders on ESMA’s areas of responsibility, and provide technical advice on its policy development. The group ensures that stakeholders contribute to policy formulation from the start of the process.

Professor Payne commented:

"I am delighted to have been appointed to this group. It is particularly important, in these difficult political times, to ensure effective and stable financial markets within the EU and the SMSG plays an important role in this process."
