Concert: Sibelius and Modernist Tendencies in Northern Europe, 1910-20

As part of the international conference Music and the Nordic Breakthrough: Sibelius, Nielsen Glazunov 2015 convened by the Faculty of Music and organised by Merton's Professor of Music Daniel Grimley, we were delighted to host a song recital given by Professor Gustav Djupsjöbacka, Rector of the Sibelius Academy in Finland, and the award-winning Finnish soprano Hedvig Paulig.

The programme included songs by Sibelius and Rachmaninov, and rarely heard works by their Finnish contemporaries (Madetoja, Kuula, Melartin, and Merikanto).
