Vaughan Williams brings together two of his greatest passions in the Fantasia on Christmas Carols – the festival of Christmas and the English folksong. And just as Vaughan Williams' popular work brings something new to the beautiful folksong melodies, this sequence of motets and carols for Christmas contrasted more recent settings of traditional texts by some of the most exciting composers writing today with much-loved settings by Pearsall, Howells, Britten and Poulenc.
