Alumni: Gaudies

At Merton, we plan a programme of Gaudies by matriculation years, so that you are able to come back to College, meet up with old friends, and renew acquaintance with your tutors. Gaudies are hugely popular, and it is wise to book well in advance of the date.

The Gaudy begins on Saturday afternoon, when Mertonians usually arrive in plenty of time to find their rooms before the the Warden's 'Life at Merton' presentation at 4pm. Further to this, the programme includes a Chapel Service, followed by a drinks reception in the Ante-chapel. The highlight of the day is a black-tie dinner in Hall, with an after-dinner speech by a representative from the year group.

The College has a limited number of rooms for the Saturday night, with breakfast on the Sunday morning.

In June every year we hold a Diamond Jubilee Lunch reunion, celebrating 60 years since matriculation, and in October a Golden Jubilee Lunch Reunion, celebrating 50 years since matriculation. The programme includes drinks, luncheon, a speech by the Year Representative, followed with tea and coffee in the New Common Room.

When is my next Gaudy?

Your first Gaudy will take place approximately ten years following your matriculation year. Further Gaudies take place around every 7 to 10 years. The Gaudies below are confirmed for the following matriculation years:
