Cleaner

Responsible to:              Housekeeping Operations & Accommodation Manager and Housekeeping Supervisors

The Housekeeping team are looking to recruit a cleaner who enjoys tasks such as cleaning bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, windows, communal areas - which are situated on various ‘staircases’ within the College sites.

The duties and skills/attributes required for this role are described in more detail in the Further Particulars.

Welfare Adviser (Michaelmas Term 2024)

Merton College has a temporary full-time Welfare Adviser role available for Michaelmas Term 2024, i.e. 1 October (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 31 December 2024. The role would be suitable for someone with student welfare experience, for example a former Junior Dean or someone with other equivalent welfare-related knowledge and experience.

The salary for the temporary position would be in the range £30,000-35,000 p.a. pro rata, depending on experience. We provide excellent benefits including free meals when on duty.

Full time hours are 35 hours per week Monday to Friday. The College may consider a part-time working pattern in this role. Please ensure that you outline the hours that you are able to work, including any limitations on your availability as part of your application.

Duties of the post will include:

· Being an accessible, approachable and visible presence around the College as a member of the welfare team.

· Being a first point of contact for, and holding one-to-one meetings with, students with welfare concerns. Employment is therefore conditional upon satisfactory provision of a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check

· Providing timely follow up on welfare concerns raised by colleagues within the College, e.g. Porters Lodge, Tutors etc.

· Providing support for the Junior Deans for Welfare, e.g. by following up with students when needed after overnight callouts or by being available as a point of contact for them during the day.

· Organising and running wellbeing and community-building activities throughout the term.

· Maintaining appropriate confidential records of meetings with students.

· Attending College welfare meetings, including weekly team meetings and the termly Welfare Forum.

· Undertaking training and supervision, as required by the Acting Head of Welfare.

· Being part of an on-call rota during some daytime working hours, e.g. for 2 days per week.

· Assisting with organisational and administrative tasks relating to the College’s welfare work, as required.
