The Roger Highfield Graduate Scholarship

We are very pleased to announce that the appeal for the Roger Highfield Graduate Scholarship in History has been completed. The generosity of over 100 Mertonians and friends has helped us to establish the Scholarship with an endowment of £1 million, consisting of £600,000 in gifts and pledges and £400,000 in matched funding from the University. We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who has contributed to this appeal.

As History Tutor (1951-1989) and Fellow Librarian, Roger Highfield made an enormous impact on the College and on the lives of many Mertonians. He was passionate about ensuring that Merton can continue to attract the very best and brightest students, from all backgrounds and from across the world. We are certain that he would have been greatly appreciative of this Scholarship, which honours him in a way that is in keeping with his legacy and his ethos.

With an endowment of £1 million, the Scholarship will have the capacity to provide full funding to one exceptional student every year. As we look to the future, Scholarships such as this will be crucial in ensuring that talented graduate applicants are not deterred from coming to the College due to lack of financial support or competition from other universities around the world.

If you would like to take part in the Roger Highfield Graduate Scholarship appeal, it is still possible to make a donation. Any further gifts we receive will provide additional support to the Scholarship fund, and all donors will be recognised in the next Merton Donor Report.
