Oxford University Brass Band with the 2023 UniBrass Shield award

Congratulations to Merton student Jesse Schelfhout and the rest of Oxford University Brass Band, who won the Shield section of the 2023 University Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on Saturday 11 February at Warwick University. The band were also awarded titles of Best Student Conductor (Alice Knight, St Anne's), and most Entertaining Band.
With pieces by Shostakovich, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder, the performance was an eclectic and energetic programme created by the students, which one judge described as ‘pure joy’ to watch and listen to. The band now look forward to travelling to Newcastle for a guest performance at the prestigious Brass in Concert festival in November as part of their prize.
