Historians’ reading party goes global

Ten Merton history finalists and their tutors have just returned from their annual reading party in Cornwall. This year they climbed Roughtor with Philip Waller and discussed new history books with an emphasis on global and transnational history, ranging from the Viking diaspora and the silk roads to international relations in the Indian Ocean and Africans in London in the era of decolonization. Studies of more traditional topics such as late antique religion, early modern witchcraft and the Irish revolution also prompted lively debate.
