Opening hours

The working libraries are open as follows:

Term-time opening hours (0th week to end 8th week)

Old Warden's Lodgings (OWL)

  • Reading Rooms: Daily, 7:30am to midnight.
  • Information desk/library office: Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm.

Mob Library

  • Daily, 8:30am – 02:00am.

Vacation opening hours (Sunday 18 June to Sunday 1 October) 

Old Warden's Lodgings (OWL)

  • Reading Rooms: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to midnight; Saturday – Sunday, 7:30am to 6:00pm
  • Information desk/library office: Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm.

  • Daily, 7:30am to midnight.

Admission

Members of Merton College

All members of Merton College are automatically registered to use the College Library.  Please contact a member of staff if you experience any difficulties using your University card to borrow books.

Non-members of Merton College

The College is happy to provide reference access to current publications not held in any of the University libraries.  It essential to contact the library in advance of your visit to arrange an appointment. Please bring your university card with you.

Consultation of Special Collections

(Archives, Manuscripts, Early printed books, other special collections)

If you would like to schedule a research visit to consult manuscripts, archives, rare books or other special collections, please complete the Research Visit request form indicating the material you would like to consult. Please provide full descriptions, titles or reference numbers, where known.

Research consultations normally take place Wednesdays – Fridays, 10:00am–12:00 noon and 1:30pm-4:30pm. An appointment is essential and places may be limited at busy times of year (for example, during the first half of July). Please also be aware that research access in Trinity Term is very limited, and researchers are advised to contact the Librarian well in advance of their planned visit.
