Before you arrive
This page outlines the tasks you will need to complete prior to your arrival. Please do read it carefully – it will make your arrival and settling-in much easier!
Checklist
1. If you have met all the conditions of your offer, you will have received instructions to complete the University Card Form from your department. Please do this as soon as possible.
2. Return the signed College Contract in your application portal in full to the Graduate Officer if you have not already done so. The Card Form and College Contract trigger the creation of your student ID card and Oxford email account, and should be done as soon as possible.
3. Log on to Student Self Service to complete the first part of the registration process.
Once your signed University Card Form is processed, you will receive an email from the University's IT Services with your Single Sign On and logon details for Student Self Service, the web platform which you will use throughout your degree. Online registration for Student Self-Service must be done prior to arrival, and we strongly recommend you do this by Monday 28 September. The details will be sent to the email address that Merton is using to communicate with you, and so you should check that account regularly. This should be a personal, rather than an institutional address.
4. Complete the Dietary Requirements and Food Allergies Form, even if you have no requirements or allergies. We need to receive this form by the deadline to ensure that your needs can be catered for during Freshers’ Week.
5. Complete the online medical registration for the Jericho Health Centre. Please also read this letter from the College GP. or Contact Jemma Underdown, the Academic Registrar if you intend to register with a different local surgery or stay with your home surgery. Please note, students are expected and strongly encouraged to register in Oxford unless there is a very good medical reason not to do so.
Please also read this important information about immunisations.
6. Activate and manage your Oxford account and access your Oxford email account.
7. Register for a remote access account.
8. Set up a bank account
UK banks require evidence in order to set up a student account, including proof of identity, proof of address, and proof of student status. Before arrival, the original letter from the Senior Tutor can be used as proof of your student status. Once on-site and registered with College, you will be able to download a certificate of enrolment from Student Self-Service to serve the same purpose.
International students are encouraged to read through the University's Guide to opening a UK bank account for further details.
