Internet Access and IT Setup

To access the Internet and IT services in College, you must first register for a Remote Access Account. You will need your Oxford Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials to complete this process, so please ensure you have activated your SSO account before proceeding.

We strongly recommend completing these steps before arriving in College so that you can connect to the Internet as soon as you move in.

For instructions on connecting to the University's wireless network (eduroam), please refer to the University of Oxford IT Services guidance: https://www.ox.ac.uk/students/life/it/getting-started

We recommend bookmarking these instructions so that you can quickly connect your devices when you arrive.

Wired Network Access

Wireless access via eduroam meets the needs of most users. Wired Ethernet connections are available where there is a suitable academic, research or technical requirement.

If wireless connectivity does not meet your needs, you may request wired network access through the College intranet. Please note that you will require your University Card details when registering devices for wired access.

Further Information

The IT section of the College intranet provides detailed information about the IT facilities and services available both within Merton College and across the wider University.

You will be able to access the intranet once you have received your Oxford SSO credentials. The link is at the bottom of this page. We also recommend reviewing the Getting Started guide for College IT services. The IT intranet contains answers to many of the questions commonly asked by new members of the College.

If you have any questions regarding IT services before your arrival, please do not hesitate to contact the IT Department.

Please note that the College IT Team cannot repair or provide hardware support for personally owned computers, laptops, tablets or peripherals. However, we welcome feedback and suggestions relating to College IT services and facilities.
