US Mertonians' generosity prompts 1264 Challenge extension
Following a generous offer from our North American-based Merton alumni organisation MC3, The Big Merton 1264 Challenge has been extended for an additional weekend - and there are now prizes available for the most creative entries.
MC3 have agreed to match any donation made to The Merton Hardship Fund before The Big Merton 1264 Challenge ends at 10:00am on Monday. They have very generously made up to a total of $12,640 available in matched funding.
The Warden, Professor Irene Tracey, said:
"We are hugely grateful to MC3, and we hope the entire Merton community will take this incredible opportunity to make our support go even further. I have been absolutely delighted by how students, alumni, staff, Fellows and friends have come together to have fun and support each other during this difficult time.
"I have been especially touched by the generosity of everyone who donated to our two worthy causes: The Merton Hardship Fund, which will support all members of the College community experiencing financial distress; and Oxford Mutual Aid, a local charity helping individuals affected by the pandemic. Each and every donation will add up to make a difference for those in our community who are experiencing hardship."
As well as extending the challenge deadline, participants now have a chance to win a prize. Following the end of The Big Merton 1264 Challenge, four of the most creative entries will be selected to win items of College memorabilia.
Professor Tracey added:
"I am excited to see all of the creative endeavours everyone comes up with, and I very much hope we will all ‘rise to the challenge’ and show support for our two worthy causes."
