The Rt Hon Lord Leveson of Liverpool Conferred with Life Peerage

Our warmest congratulations to Merton’s Honorary Fellow, The Rt Hon Lord Leveson of Liverpool, who has been conferred with a life peerage by His Majesty The King. The Letters patent was signed on the 25th of August 2026.

He will be one of two nonpolitical Crossbenchers recommended by the House of Lords Appointment Commission.

His distinguished career includes his current role as the Investigatory Powers Commissioner, Former President of the Queen’s Bench Division, Lord Justice of Appeal, Former Chair of the Sentencing Council and Chair of the Leveson Inquiry into the Culture, Practices and Ethics of the Press.
