Rt Hon Sir Brian Leveson
The Rt Hon Sir Brian Leveson is the Investigatory Powers Commissioner having been President of the Queen's Bench Division from 2013 until his retirement from the bench in 2019. He practised at the bar from 1970 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1986. Appointed to the High Court bench in 2000, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2006 and was the Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales from 2007-2009. He was the inaugural Chair of the Sentencing Council for England and Wales (2009-13) and conducted the Inquiry into the Culture Practice and Ethics of the Press along with a later Review of Efficiency in Criminal Proceedings. He is the Chancellor Emeritus of Liverpool John Moores University.
