In part a reimagining of the soundworld of Heinrich Schütz and his German contemporaries, Gabriel Jackson's The Christmas Story journeys from Advent to Candlemas in a sequence of dramatic narratives, reflective motets, carols and instrumental sinfonias, the music being by turns austere, tender, dark and ultimately joyful and celebratory.
