This programme traces a powerful arc of lament and reflection, from the Renaissance to the present day. Music by Byrd, Lassus, Gombert, Phinot, and White explores themes of loss, penitence, and hope, while Nico Muhly’s Recordare offers a striking contemporary response to these timeless emotions. Performed by The Tallis Scholars with The Choir of Merton College, and directed by Peter Phillips, this concert brings together voices across centuries in a deeply resonant meditation on suffering and consolation.
