Access and Outreach: Visit Us

Visits to Merton

Visiting Merton is a great way to get students to start thinking about University and Oxford more specifically. Because of this, we welcome group visits from UK schools, colleges and other youth organisations.

Naturally, we prioritise those schools in our link areas, but are happy to support other schools – whether that looks like putting them in contact with their link college or working directly with you ourselves. We are particularly enthusiastic about making contact with and supporting schools who have little to no history of sending students to the University of Oxford.

What does this look like?

Our Schools Liaison Officer will organise inbound school visits. The day typically follows this schedule:

  • 10.30am – Arrive in Oxford
  • 11am – Welcome and Introduction to Oxford
  • 11.30am – Q&A with current students
  • 12pm – Tour of the College
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.15pm – Afternoon Workshop (e.g. Museum Visits, Taster Lectures, Admissions Workshops)
  • 2/3pm – Depart Oxford

Our schedule is adaptable to a school's needs or preferences (within reason), and we can only host full-day visits from state schools, with priority given to those in our linked regions. For other schools, we can normally arrange a tour and sometimes help with facilitated sessions.

Visits can be adjusted to the needs of the school, in terms of content, time, delivery and the age of students attending. They can take the form of presentations, information sessions, Q&As, workshops etc. and can cover a wide range of topics which can be discussed to make sure that schools and students get the most out of every session.

To book a visit to Merton please use the School visit to Merton College request form or email our liaisons officer directly.

Individual students may also be interested in visiting Merton, for an Open Day or a self-guided tour.

Please note that virtual talks are also available, should this be a more suitable option.
