Tim Phillips was educated at Mill Hill School and Merton (1960-64) and is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.

Whilst at Oxford, Tim earned a triple Blue in tennis, squash and hockey, and was Honorary Secretary of Vincent’s Club. He went on to play in three of the tennis Grand Slams: Wimbledon and the US and Australian Opens, reaching the semi-finals of US men’s doubles in 1964.

Tim had a long career with British Airways, joining the company in 1966 and spending 15 years overseas as Area Manager for the Gulf, Australia and Italy. Returning to BA’s headquarters in London in 1983, he held a number of posts, including Deputy Marketing Director, Head of Logistics, Deputy Operations Director, Regional General Manager Europe, and Head of Community Relations.

Tim has been a member of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 1966, and was its Chairman from 1999-2010. He was also the Chairman of Fields in Trust (formerly the National Playing Fields Association) from 2012-19.

He is married to Elizabeth (Head of St Marylebone Girls’ School for 20 years, awarded OBE in 2003) and has one daughter, Sally (an actress and New College alumna), and two sons, Andrew and James.
