Steve Maxwell (1992)
Steve has built his career around helping people to discover what is most fulfilling to them, and to become more effective people and leaders.
Steve completed a B.A. (Maths & Philosophy) and D.Phil (Mathematical Logic) at Merton College in the 1990s. While this time was successful and very enjoyable, during the latter stages of his D.Phil., Steve realised that he wanted to pivot from academic theoretical work towards working directly with people to help them fulfil their potential.
This journey started with 2 years in Oxford working for the charity Focus where he helped young people to develop leadership skills and confidence. He then moved to San Francisco, where he trained as an executive coach (CPCC). He worked for 5 years at InsideTrack, a start-up company that provided general coaching to university students, where he helped to grow the company from 5 to 250 employees.
Steve then worked at Google for 16 years, leading Global Learning Programs, multiple Learning & Development Business Partner teams and the Custom Solutions team. He led the project team which designed Google’s methodology for organization design and has used it extensively with leaders at Google.
After leaving Google in 2023, Steve is currently working as a consultant with leaders and teams to help them become more effective, using methods including consulting, coaching, design and facilitation. He is also writing a book on these subjects.
He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and enjoys football (soccer!), theatre, music and poetry.
