After Merton, I did a law conversion course before joining a law firm, Slaughter and May, as a trainee. I worked at Slaughter and May for 30 years as an associate and then as a partner. I worked in the financing sphere, advising large multinational corporates, financial institutions and governments. In particular, I advised HM Treasury on the financial crisis in 2008/2009 and more recently in connection with the COVID pandemic. I left Slaughter and May in April 2026 and have been recently appointed to the board of the Financial Conduct Authority, the UK's financial services regulator.
