I joined the UK Foreign Office after Merton. After early postings in Paris and Washington, I was the private secretary to PM Tony Blair for Foreign Affairs, British Ambassador in Bosnia, Europe Director, Chief Operating Officer and Ambassador to the UN in New York. After that I became Permanent Secretary of DFID and then the Home Office. I now have a plural career including advising on geopolitics and government relations. I have co-founded the National Strategy Project. I have various chair and trustee roles.
