Martin Michalski (2006)

Martin Michalski is a senior legal leader with 15 years across premier global law firms and in-house legal departments. He is currently Director and Associate General Counsel at Chewy, where he recruited and leads a team of four attorneys and two legal professionals, serving as primary counsel to the President of Retail, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Customer Care Officer. His remit spans commercial contracting, payments, regulatory and compliance, M&A diligence and integration, real estate, and supply chain.

He spent a decade in acquisition and leveraged finance at Baker & McKenzie, Kirkland & Ellis, Willkie Farr & Gallagher, and Sidley Austin, advising private equity sponsors and credit funds, including Bain Capital, EQT, CVC, TowerBrook, GTCR, Wendel, and Platinum Equity, on more than $12bn of cross-border financings, restructurings, and workouts.

At Amazon, he was sole legal counsel for the company's store launch in South Africa through the first year of the project, and lead lawyer for Global Store, a program serving customers across 14+ destinations.

He leads his team's legal technology and AI program, having built a centralized contract intake and legal review workflow and Legal-owned template and knowledge repositories, and now sponsoring AI tools for intake triage, self-service guidance, and contract intelligence.

Martin holds a BA in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford (Merton College) and a Diploma in Legal Practice with Distinction. He is a solicitor of England and Wales, a registered Authorized House Counsel in Florida, and a native speaker of English, German, and Polish.
