I completed my undergraduate studies in Pharmacology at the University of Southampton. I subsequently joined the Division of Structural Biology (STRUBI), University of Oxford, for a DPhil in Clinical Medicine (supervised by Prof. Robert Gilbert). I had an unique set of circumstances during my DPhil and had to overcome many challenges, which I wrote about in a careers column for the journal Nature (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-00049-w) and has heavily influenced my charity work. After defending my DPhil and publishing my research, I moved to Imperial College London and then the Francis Crick Institute for my postdoctoral work with Prof. Xiaodong Zhang, FRS. After my postdoctoral work in the field of DNA repair, I joined the Genome Damage and Stability Centre at the University of Sussex as a Lecturer in Genome Stability to head up a new laboratory.
Outside of my academic research career, I am a charity trustee (https://livelifegivelife.org.uk/) and work with clinicians, healthcare professionals, medical societies, UK biobanks, the NHS, UK Government, law makers, the BBC, filmmakers, and journalists.
