After Merton and Law College in Chester, I practised as a solicitor for 35 years, at Freshfields in London and Frankfurt and at Linklaters, mainly in London but also in Berlin, where I was a partner and head of the firm’s Infrastructure Practice for over two decades until 2022. My experience involved developing, financing, and M&A around airports, ports, roads, water utilities, electricity grids and gas pipeline networks in almost every country in Europe, using my knowledge of common and civil law. On retiring from Linklaters, one of my clients asked me to become a director of Athens Airport, where I can put my experience to direct commercial effect. I am also a member of the Advisory Council of the British Museum and on the board of the English Concert.
