I've had a 25 year career in public service in national and local government and enjoy both the leadership and public policy elements of the role. I joined the civil service as a scientist and worked in the Department of Trade & Industry, in Parliament and at the British Embassy in Paris. I then retrained as an economist and have spent much of the past two decades at HM Treasury, most recently leading one of the department's tax groups responsible for advising successive Chancellors on how to deliver their economic and fiscal goals through the tax system. I've also spent time at Newcastle City Council as Assistant Chief Executive and in the Cabinet Office Covid-19 taskforce which led the Government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
