Gilbert Peffer (1992)

Senior Generative AI Expert

I am a technology and innovation professional with a career that has taken me through a broad variety of disciplines including engineering, quantitative finance, educational technologies, innovation and entrepreneurship, and more recently, artificial intelligence.

I studied aerospace engineering at the University of Stuttgart and later mathematics and computing at Oxford University. In 1995, I moved into quantitative finance in London, where I worked at Salomon Brothers and Citi on fixed-income and derivatives analytics.

After my time in finance, I moved to Barcelona, where I initiated and coordinated a variety of international research and innovation projects in simulation and education technologies. Much of my work involved bringing together research and industry partners, and finding ways to turn research into something useful in practice. Over time, this led me increasingly towards commercialisation and entrepreneurship. I co-founded Kubify, a Dutch event tech company, and later worked as Chief Innovation Officer at an earth-observation start-up.

Today I work as a generative AI expert at ELEM Biotech in Barcelona. There, I explore and develop generative AI applications in scientific and business settings, while also looking at the wider question of how organisations can develop better AI-enabled ways of working.
