Charlotte Hamilton Clark (1991)

Senior Hon. Research Fellow at UCL, Institute of Education

1995: I left Merton with a 2:1 in Biochemistry, I had an offer of a PhD at Cambridge but decided not to take it.
1996-2000: My first job was in Financial PR and Investor Relations: I represented FTSE companies to the press and City analysts, managing their reputation and advising in takeovers, for example NatWest-RBS. I became the youngest Partner (at 24) and Consultant at The Maitland Consultancy, now H/Advisors Maitland.
2000-2005: Strategy Analyst with Forrester Research (a US tech consultancy) focusing on European Financial Services. I wrote strategy reports on how the Internet would change consumer financial services and built predictive spreadsheets and presented these to the Boards of banks across Europe. It's been great to see some of my predictions slowly coming true!
2005-2010: Career break for 3 children.
2011-2014: Part-time Masters in Biodiversity, Wildlife & Ecosystem Management at the University of Edinburgh.
2014-2021: Part-time PhD at UCL Institute of Education on the lived experience of dyslexia at university and the intersections between dyslexia, stigma and student identity.
2022- UCL IoE Senior Hon. Research Fellow: My current research concerns questions of university students' identity, institutional classification of difference and cognitive diversity.

I have taught on a Master's Programme in Education and Technology and follow with interest the debate on AI in education!

I am also a Governor at one of the largest 6th form colleges in southern England, with a specific interest in learning support and disability at the college.
