Charles Albert Matz III (2020)

Professor and Executive Director

Charles Matz is a University of Oxford Saïd Business School graduate affiliated with Merton and St Hugh’s Colleges, holding two social science degrees focused on strategy, innovation, and major programme management. He integrates this academic background with his role as executive director of a multi-business unit holding company and family office invested in art, culture, media, and technology, where he steers venture acceleration across engineering, manufacturing, and the built environment. In 2022, he became a Strategic Advisor and Investment Development Consultant for the University of Oxford’s Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division, supporting the AWS Human-Machine Collaboration testbed and educational-creative technologies portfolios.

As an architect and strategist, Matz has directed over 20 renovations at Princeton University, including current management programmes, for over three decades, including the Engineering Quadrangle, Jadwin Gymnasium, and multiple athletic facilities. His educational portfolio also spans Williams College and the City University of New York. Internationally, he has designed projects for the New York Stock Exchange, Sony, and Disney, spanning over 150 media productions alongside master plans for the Princeton and Columbia University associations of New York. His multidisciplinary design work has been recognised with a Ciné Golden Eagle Award and an International Music Television Award.

Raised in Venice and New York City, Matz’s academic research bridges Organisation Theory, sensemaking, and phenomenology. He specifically investigates how project stakeholders utilise spatial-temporal visual artefacts within the management systems of complex infrastructure works and digital humanities initiatives.
