The Warden, Professor Jennifer Payne, elected as an Academic Bencher of the Inner Temple
The Warden, Professor Jennifer Payne, has been elected as an Academic Bencher of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, one of the four Inns of Court that hold the exclusive right to Call their Members to the Bar of England and Wales, and which govern the barristers’ profession in England & Wales.
In electing Academic Benchers, the Inn seeks to recognise ‘academics of outstanding ability and distinction and, in doing so, produce an even stronger academic ethos within the Inn’. Professor Payne’s election was ‘in recognition of her distinguished academic career and wide-ranging expertise in the fields of company law, corporate finance law, financial regulation and corporate insolvency.’
Academic Benchers have the opportunity to contribute to the education and training, and other activities of the Inn. A Bencher, or Master of the Bench, is a senior member of an Inn of Court in England and Wales and Ireland. Benchers hold office for life once elected.
