A statement by Professor Irene Tracey CBE FMedSci, the Warden of Merton College, following the announcement of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II:
"The news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen is deeply saddening. A most remarkable and historic woman whose lifelong service, devotion and decency cannot be overstated. Our sympathy and thoughts go to the King and all the Royal family. Let us remember a great and much loved Monarch and Matriarch. Let us give thanks to a Queen who gave lifelong and devoted service to our country, this collegiate university, and the world. May this wonderful woman of enduring faith rest now in peace."
A Book of Condolence will be available to sign from 10:00am on Friday 9 September in the Ante-Chapel, and there will be candles available for people to light. There will be a special service of commemoration for the life of the Queen, sung by the College Choir, at 4:00pm tomorrow in the Chapel. All are welcome. For those unable to join us in person, the service will be livestreamed here.
