Professor Sir George Radda 1936 - 2024
With a great sense of sadness, we announce the loss of Professor Sir George Radda.
George was a chemistry student at Merton and then later became a Fellow of the College.
His distinguished career saw George receive numerous prestigious honours and awards. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1993 Birthday Honours for services to science, and knighted in the 2000 Birthday Honours for services to biomedical science.
“George was truly one of a kind. A remarkable man gifted with a brilliant brain, humour, kindness and generosity of spirit. He left a lasting impression on all those who knew him or had the very good fortune to work with him, as I did both as a former DPhil student and then as a colleague. I will treasure my memory of last seeing him and Sue just before I became the Vice Chancellor and our correspondence subsequently. It was clear that his passion for science and learning never ceased, neither did his love for Merton and the University. Rest in Peace dear George.”
- Professor Irene Tracey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford
