Professor Sir Andrew Wiles receives basic science lifetime award

Two distinguished mathematicians from the University of Oxford, Professor Sir Andrew Wiles and Professor Marc Lackenby, have been recognised with prestigious awards from the International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS).

Professor Sir Andrew Wiles, the Regius Professor in Mathematics and the Royal Society Research Professor of Mathematics of Merton College, has received the Basic Science Lifetime Award. This accolade honours his groundbreaking proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, a landmark achievement that has profoundly influenced the field of mathematics. In addition to his mathematical contributions, Sir Andrew has served as an inspiration to countless aspiring mathematicians worldwide.

The awards were presented at the 2024 International Congress of Basic Science, held in Beijing, China, on 14 July 2024.
