Mertonians at the Proms

On Sunday 4 August, three recent Mertonians made their Proms debuts in an eclectic programme which ranged from Brahms, Dvorak and Bartok to Burt Bacharach, Piazzolla and Stevie Wonder. Tom Fetherstonhaugh (Organ Scholar 2016-2019) was conducting his Fantasia Orchestra which included Athena Hawksley-Walker (2016) and Rebecca McNaught (2014); Sheku Kanneh-Mason was the cello soloist. The Prom will be broadcast on BBC 4 on Friday 9 August at 8pm.

Earlier in the season, former Visiting Fellow in the Creative Arts, Cheryl Frances-Hoad received two performances of her recent work. Voces 8 and The King’s Singers included her Beyond the Night Sky on Sunday 21st July, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with cellist Laura van der Heijden played her Cello Concerto, ‘Earth’ Sea, Air’  on Friday 26th July.

All three Proms are available on BBC Sounds.
