Mertonians Make an Aria

Merton is to be well represented in the final workshop for this year's Make an Aria project, organised by prestigious opera company Music Theatre Wales. Benedict Morrison (DPhil Film Studies) and Sanders Bernstein (BA English) will have their words performed by professional musicians as part of a public masterclass with composer Judith Weir on Thursday 27 February at 8pm in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, St Hilda’s College. Both writers were competitively selected to take part in this workshop and have been paired with the top postgraduate composers in Oxford's Faculty of Music.

Benedict’s collaboration with award-winning composer Samantha Fernando has expanded into a full-scale opera project which explores the link between gaze and power, and the way in which politics, religion and theatre are all spaces of surveillance.
