Merton Undergraduate wins 'Best Dancer' at prestigious competition

Merton Undergraduate Lucy Williams was recently awarded the 'Best Dancer' award at a Varsity competition in Loughborough.

Lucy commented:

'I am in first year and I auditioned for OUCD (Oxford Univeristy Competition Dance) this Michaelmas. I have been training up to 6 times a week and I danced in our contemporary, wildcard, lyrical and commercial routines and lead the Varsity jazz piece this competition season. We won at Varsity last term and got on the podium for some of our routines at Loughborough, which is the biggest uni dance competition in the UK and was judged by Luba Mushtuk, Adam Garcia, Lukas McFarlane and Francesca Velicu. On the first day of the competition, I was awarded "Best dancer" out of over one thousand competitors. The same award was given to an incredible Cambridge dancer on the second day.

I've never really danced competitively, so this year has been a new experience for me.

I also received my half blue this term alongside some other incredible dancers. The stylistic versatility on the team is so special and I have really enjoyed meeting and learning from the talent in OUCD.'
