Merton student to conduct Oxford Philomusica

DPhil music student Cayenna Ponchione has been selected to conduct the Oxford Philomusica in concert, after a successful conducting masterclass with Valery Gergiev. The concert, which takes place on Saturday 22 February at 8:00pm in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, includes the premiere of Solfa Carlile’s new orchestral work, Ithaca, and the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major, Op. 102, performed by emerging concert pianist, Alexander Ullman. The second half of the concert will feature the Magdalen College Choir performing the Mozart Requiem, under the direction of Dan Hyde.
