Merton College Boat Club celebrates its new shell

On Saturday 27 May, the new shell for the women's squad in the Boat club, Irene Tracey, was named in a ceremony on Sundial Lawn, at the end of the Summer Eights races that day.

After attending the races themselves, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey CBE, FMedSci., FRS accompanied the women's squad as they carried the new shell from the boathouse over to College. The naming ceremony was performed during the Summer Eights Boat Club drinks, where the arrival of this long-awaited new shell for the women's squad was heartily celebrated. The ceremony was followed by dinner in Hall with the Merton Boat Club and MCBC alumni.
