Merton Chapel Art Competition Results Announced

Merton College Chapel announced the results of the Merton Chapel Art Competition on 12 March, with Gloria Arroyo, one of the College’s SCR and Hall Assistants, taking first place for her exquisite line drawing titled The Garden. The competition, which invited entries depicting aspects of the Chapel building or capturing elements of Chapel life, saw a diverse range of artistic interpretations from students, staff, and Fellows.

Second prize was awarded to Antonia McClintock from the JCR, whose striking lino print, Introit, impressed the judging panel with its bold composition. Both winning pieces, along with other selected entries, will be used in the Chapel’s print and digital media, including greetings cards given to visitors who contribute to the Chapel’s life through sermons, music, and other engagements.

The judging panel, which included the Warden, the Chaplains, and this term’s Visiting Fellow in the Creative Arts, expressed their gratitude to all participants for their creative contributions. The winning artist received a £50 book token, while the runner-up was awarded a £25 book token.

The competition provided a wonderful opportunity for members of the Merton community to step away from their desks and engage with their artistic side during Hilary Term.
